No regrets. 4Runners are everywhere here and as great looking as they are, anytime I feel FOMO rising, I just think "30mpg city vs 16". I live in a medium city and like to go hiking on the weekends. My TRD Off-Road easily gets me to all the nearby trailheads, while also being a reasonable city vehicle the rest of the time.

RAV4 feels very comfortable at speed. But you will need to brake for washes, ditches, and potholes, and then you compress your front suspension and nose right into the obstacle. I found that RAV4 (on stock Geolandars) goes pretty well up and down slope, on gravel, sand/clay mix. Dirt is ok if not excessive.
